Nicknamed Summit City, Fort Wayne is a city in northeastern Indiana and the seat of Allen County. Known for her arts and cultural heritage, Fort Wayne attracts tourists throughout the year. The History Center, located in Fort Wayne’s Old City Hall, is home to more than 23,000 artifacts that recall the region’s history. Other cultural museums within the area include the African/African–American Historical Museum, Fort Wayne Firefighters Museum, Greater Fort Wayne Aviation Museum, and Baer Field Heritage Air Park.
Fort Wayne hosts a number of cultural festivals and events annually, drawing visitors and tourists all year round. The largest annual events in the city are the Johnny Appleseed Festival and the Three Rivers Festival. Apple-themed cuisine, crafts, and historical demonstrations that recall 19th century American pioneering are featured in the festival’s events. Three Rivers Festival, a celebration of Fort Wayne, spans nine days every July with over 200 events and includes a parade, midway, a hot dog eating contest, bed race, raft race, arts fair, and fireworks display. Other annual events include the Allen County Fair, BAALS Music Festival, National Soccer Festival, and the Vera Bradley Outlet Sale.
These festivals are held to commemorate ethnic food, dance, music, arts, culture and history, and include Germanfest, Greek Festival, and Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival. Barbecue lovers shouldn’t miss out on the BBQ RibFest as it showcases barbecue rib cooks and live entertainment and attracts visitors and tourists to the area annually.
Taste of the Arts is an annual weekend long extravaganza for music enthusiasts in Fort Wayne, that brings music and food together in harmony with various performers and delectable food bites, this event should not be missed. HolidayFest usually begins with the Night of Lights on eve of Thanksgiving, with the lighting of the PNC Santa and Reindeer, Wells Fargo Holiday Display, and Indiana Michigan Power Christmas Wreath, and ends with a fireworks display at Parkview Field.
A vibrant area for businesses, Fort Wayne is the economic hub of northeast Indiana, making it a great location to start your business. There are two municipal airports in the area, both managed by the Fort Wayne–Allen County Airport Authority. Fort Wayne International Airport is also home to the 122d Fighter Wing’s Fort Wayne Air National Guard Station.
