You can take a nap in a hammock or take a ride in a kayak – though you may occasionally fall out of it–these are the experiences to live for. Sylvan Lake
With 16 miles of gorgeous shoreline and 669 acres of water, Sylvan Lake is the perfect destination for water skiing and vacationers looking for the charm of a small town laced with beauty and relaxation.

Sylvan Lake is a host to many tourist attractions like the internationally famous Gene Stratton-Porter State historic site, The Lavender Lane, Limberlost Golf Course, The Big Island and its premier B-I-N-G-O hall.

Lake Wawasee

In the northeast area of Indiana, near Syracuse, sits the largest natural lake in Indiana, Lake Wawasee. With over 25 miles of shoreline and more than 1,000 homes and condos with lakefront views, it’s a well-known vacation area for people visiting Northeast Indiana lakes – and for a good cause. There are several marinas, restaurants, beaches, resorts and a yacht club along the shoreline of the lake, and more fun recreational activities can be found close to Syracuse.

If you’re timing your visit to fall in summer, one of Lake Wawasee’s biggest events is the Fourth of July celebration. Floating barges are heavily stocked with incredible fireworks displays that light up the night sky. As you celebrate Independence Day on the lake, you’ll also be able to enjoy troops of decorated boats parading the lake, flagged off by the Wawasee Wooden Boats’ Thunder Run, a series of dozens of beautiful historical wooden boats. While most participants reside on the lake or just nearby, the Thunder Run attracts boat enthusiasts and many observers from outside the area.

Lake Wawasee is a great place to be any time of the year and if you’re looking for a place to stay during your vacation, there are beautiful resorts around with a perfect view of the lake. Some of these resorts offer boat tours which is a good way to go out and explore the lake.

Summertime on the lake is mostly dominated by recreational activities like swimming, fishing, boating, and skiing, but the fun still continues in the colder months. Lake Wawasee and its environs are also popular for skating, ice fishing, snow skiing, and snowmobiling in winter.

Lake James
Sitting in the northeast corner of Indiana, Lake James is a natural lake that is ranked as having the best water quality in the state. It is part of the James Lake Chain in Steuben County and also extends into neighboring Michigan. While residential properties surround the lake, there are also numerous parks, and public access points with boats and beaches for swimming.

Home of the Pokagon State Park, Lake James is a popular recreational spot known for its all year round adventures, ranging from toboggan runs to yoga on the beach and its inviting waterfront. It is also known for abundant fishes and great fishing, boating, as well as its popularity for water-skiing.
